Engagement

While a degree can make a huge difference in your career prospects and progression, there is a lot more you can do as a student to help yourself be more marketable in the job search. In higher education, we usually call this applied learning engagement.

If you are looking to gain research experience, gain a credential, join a club to connect with others in your field or compete against others to develop your skills, the College of Applied Science and Technology has opportunities for you!

Student Clubs and Organizations

The College of Applied Science and Technology has multiple student organizations focused on supporting students within our degree programs.

CAST Student Organizations

The Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA) also maintains a list of campus-wide current student organizations. If you are interested in starting your own organization, please contact the CAST Career & Engagement Coordinator.

CAST Student Advisory Board

CAST Student Advisory Board serves as the voice of students to the administration, staff and faculty of the college.

Research

Research happens in all disciplines and students at any level in their education can be valuable contributors to the creation of new knowledge. The University of Arizona is designated as a Research 1 (R1) university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Higher Education. This means as a university, we are at the forefront of research and innovation and are annually awarded significant federal and private funding for academic research.

Undergraduates and graduate students both have the opportunity to become involved in research at the University of Arizona. The best way to begin searching for research that fits your interests is by visiting the University of Arizona’s Undergraduate Research & Inquiry Collaborative research database. Keep in mind that you don’t have to only do research within the College of Applied Science and Technology, however the options for remote research participation is limited.

If you have questions about how to get involved, schedule an appointment with the Career & Engagement professional.

Should you have interest in working on your own research, connect with the head of your department or your CAST academic advisor to learn about opportunities for independent study.

Study Abroad

The University of Arizona has a robust study abroad program and there are a variety of different types of programs: exchange programs, instructor-led programs, service learning and more. These options are ever evolving so it is best to connect directly with the study abroad office by submitting an interest form on the Study Abroad website. Make sure before committing to a program that you connect with your CAST academic advisor and verify the credits you earn will apply to your academic program of study.
