Aspiring Powers Initiative
Aspiring Powers Initiative
The Aspiring Powers Initiative is a multi-year, interdisciplinary research effort to investigate the dynamics among the aspiring powers in international politics. Aspiring powers are defined as states which possess (a) the necessary potential, including economic and military capabilities, and (b) the intent to challenge the existing international order. The project is designed to better understand the driving forces behind foreign policies of aspiring powers and to measure the levels of collaborations among them in relevant foreign policy domains.
RESEARCH THRUSTS
The initiative is organized into research thrusts. Under the overarching umbarella of investigating the dynamics among aspiring powers, the initiative is designed to remain agile and relevant over time. The current research thrust is focused on investigating the role of the Russo-Ukrainian war and the changing nature of modern warfare, such as information warfare, on the dynamics among aspiring powers.
HOST INSTITUTION
The initiative is hosted by the College of Applied Science and Technology at the University of Arizona.
